Homeschooling Secrets

Unlock the Keys to Homeschooling Success

Christian Homeschool

Homeschooling has long been a primarily religious movement. It is often the reason parents choose to homeschool. Public school has moved more and more in the direction of removing any discussion of religious preference. And private schools that are geared toward any one religion are often the catch all of children removed from public schools. But a Christian homeschool is the perfect environment to not only educate your children academically, but also a place to nurture and support a deep set of Christian values.

Having Christian homeschool starts with having a Christian home. Your children will not believe Santa Clause unless you tell them the story and secretly put presents under the tree while they’re sleeping. And children will not believe in Christ unless you are living your faith in Christ. This is the most important step in having a Christian homeschool and the key to its success.

Start your homeschool day with prayer and worship. When my children were younger, we would have a simple prayer time and sing one or more of their favorite songs. I sang and acted out, “Father Abraham” on a regular basis. As they have grown they are expected to open their own day in prayer and then move onto a quit time with Christ. This might include prayer, scripture reading, and even singing hymns. One thing I have found very helpful is to have this time as a family even if we are all separated through out the house. This gives a quiet environment to make the time more beneficial and keeps everyone accountable.

When your homeschooling from a Christian prospective remember to remind children that God’s hand is everything. Math is the system of order that God created. Science is the discovery of the details of creation and how it works. Subjects like art, music, and even writing help children learn how God has gifted each of us in different areas. Sometimes even asking a simple question like, “What are some of the ways God has made this unique?”

When all else fails in your homeschool, remember the reason you are a Christian homeschooler. You have a saving belief in Christ. He is in control of all things. And if all you ever teach your children is that Christ id their Lord and Savior, your doing the most important thing.
