Home School Supplies
When you’re a home school teacher, just like every other teacher, you need supplies. But home school supplies will differ some from that of other teachers. Home school supplies for a teacher may include a grade book. But this can be easily kept up with on a computer or regular notebook if you only have a few students. But if you like the look of a professional grade book or need one for a large family, they can be easily purchased at a local office supply. It may be helpful to keep a notebook of your home school activities even if you don’t use letter grades. And in some states it required to keep a lesson plan. So be sure you know what laws may apply to you.
Home school supplies for students will vary depending on your students age and your home school style. You need the basics, pens, pencils, crayons, and lots of paper! Then you need curriculum. This may be your favorite book that you read aloud or a college text book. Some children work well with workbooks and others learn best with little structure. Work sheets can be printed from a full spectrum curriculum company or made by Mom on a plain sheet of paper. Home school supplies can be as simple and as complex as you want them to be. I find that my own children enjoy getting some new basic supplies every year, even new backpacks on occasion. But we often use these items in play as much as with formal school.
Some of the more expanded home school supplies I have found useful over the years change as the children get older. I purchased a used microscope on eBay early on and found it so useful that I bought a much nicer one later on. They were both expensive, but both were well worth it. There are also some great home school supply kits available for specific things like dissection, art projects, and chemistry sets. Many of these things can be used over and over as each student moves up. And then you simply have to store it for a time and maybe replace a few consumable items. Remember that home school supplies can be kept simple and affordable or extensive and expensive. It’s your home school and your call.
